Ok, so it turns out the food pictures and text I posted are copyrighted material, so they are now gone.
Paradise Found clued me in with her comment: “Those images are from the book “Hungry Planet” by Peter Menzel and Faith D’Aluisio. Menzel also created “Material World” which shows families outside of their homes, as mentioned by Steve, above. They are both *excellent* books and a wonderful addition to our social studies around here.”
Thanks Paradise Found for letting me know!
We’ve also read Material World, and loved it… I’m going to have to look for “Hungry Planet” next, it looks like a wonderful book.
So Mr Menzel and Ms D’Aluisio, please accept my apologies for lifting (temporarily, and lovingly) a bit of your book.

Yes, we have both of those books and love them. Very eye-opening and thought-provoking!
well they shouldn’t give you too much trouble cuz now we all want to go find that book!
That’s too bad ~ oh well, at least now you won’t have to go to jail for theft of copyrighted material!
You know, I was curious so I googled and found this - it’s a photo essay including images from the book over at the Time magazine site. So, if anyone’s curious to see what it’s about - without you copyright infringing - they can go here: http://www.time.com/time/photogallery/0,29307,1626519,00.html
But it’s worth it to buy the book, too! My kids pore over these repeatedly.
I’ve not even heard of the books. Should I have? Maybe I’ll check around.
Thanks for the tips on unit studies.
I noticed on your personality type we are both Kinesthetic.
Thanks for the info on the books. We have to go to the library today so I’ll check for them.
We do have so much stuff. I tend to be a minimalist and I still have too much, way more than we need.
How are you guys?
